Arrests relating to widely circulated social media assault in Merton

Good afternoon,

You may be aware of, or have seen, distressing footage shared on social media platforms of a young female being assaulted in the Merton area last week by other teenage girls.

The incident happened on 9th February 2026 outside Mitcham Eastfields Tram Station between 1530 - 1630.

This footage has been reviewed and the culprits identified with 3 people being arrested in relation to the incident, officers from Merton Safer Neighbourhoods team have assisted with arrests within this operation.

The victim is receiving on-going support and the suspects are being interviewed and the investigation progressed by our detective colleagues.
